An ensemble with exceptional communicative power and a thrilling stage presence, ensemble 4.1 is equally admired by audiences and critics for its entertaining and educational programs.
The ensemble was founded in 2013 by five long-time friends, all members of professional German orchestras or university professors. With great joy in making music together, the ensemble travels for concerts as far as Pakistan, China or Tulsa, Oklahoma, presents workshops and school concerts, and guides audiences through its programs with relaxed introductions. In addition, ensemble 4.1 piano windtet collaborates with contemporary composers such as Jörg Widmann, V. D. Kirchner and Avner Dorman.
Alongside the original masterpieces for this colorful instrumentation by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven, the ensemble is particularly devoted to the rediscovery of rarely performed works from the past two centuries.
Thus, piano windtets by Walter Gieseking, Heinrich von Herzogenberg and Gustav Holst – to name but a few – are now once again performed regularly for enthusiastic audiences.

Ein Ensemble mit außergewöhnlicher kommunikativer Kraft und mitreißender Bühnenpräsenz: Ensemble 4.1 wird von Publikum wie Kritik gleichermaßen für seine ebenso unterhaltsamen wie lehrreichen Programme geschätzt.
Gegründet wurde das Ensemble im Jahr 2013 von fünf langjährigen Freunden, allesamt Mitglieder professioneller deutscher Orchester oder Hochschulprofessoren. Mit großer Freude am gemeinsamen Musizieren reist das Ensemble zu Konzerten bis nach Pakistan, China oder Tulsa (Oklahoma), gibt Workshops und Schulkonzerte und führt das Publikum mit entspannten Moderationen durch seine Programme. Darüber hinaus arbeitet das Ensemble 4.1 piano windtet mit zeitgenössischen Komponisten wie Jörg Widmann, V. D. Kirchner und Avner Dorman zusammen.
Neben den Originalmeisterwerken für diese farbenreiche Besetzung von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart und Ludwig van Beethoven widmet sich das Ensemble besonders der Wiederentdeckung selten gespielter Werke der letzten beiden Jahrhunderte.
So werden heute auch Klavier-Windtets von Walter Gieseking, Heinrich von Herzogenberg und Gustav Holst – um nur einige zu nennen – wieder regelmäßig vor begeistertem Publikum aufgeführt.

L’ensemble a été fondé en 2013 par cinq amis de longue date, tous membres d’orchestres professionnels allemands ou professeurs d’université. Animé par un immense plaisir de jouer ensemble, l’ensemble se produit en concert jusqu’au Pakistan, en Chine ou à Tulsa (Oklahoma), propose des ateliers et des concerts scolaires et guide le public à travers ses programmes grâce à des présentations détendues. Par ailleurs, l’ensemble 4.1 piano windtet collabore avec des compositeurs contemporains tels que Jörg Widmann, V. D. Kirchner et Avner Dorman.
Aux côtés des chefs-d’œuvre originaux pour cette formation riche en couleurs de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart et de Ludwig van Beethoven, l’ensemble se consacre particulièrement à la redécouverte d’œuvres rarement jouées des deux derniers siècles.
Ainsi, des windtets pour piano de Walter Gieseking, Heinrich von Herzogenberg et Gustav Holst – pour n’en citer que quelques-uns – sont aujourd’hui de nouveau interprétés régulièrement devant un public enthousiaste.

Così, windtet per pianoforte di Walter Gieseking, Heinrich von Herzogenberg e Gustav Holst – solo per citarne alcuni – vengono oggi nuovamente eseguiti con regolarità davanti a un pubblico entusiasta.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a letter to his father about the slow movement of his Quintet KV 452. The ensemble 4.1 piano windtet, called the "Easy Rider of Vienna Classics" (Hamburger Abendblatt), approaches this genius work with abundant joy. The Debut CD of the ensemble 4.1 piano windtet features the Mozart Quintet, a world premiere recording by romantic Theodor Verhey and the rediscovery of the only Quintet written by famous pianist Walter Gieseking, a colorful work of surprisingly fine quality.

Voilà, the ensemble 4.1! Possibly the only steady piano windtet – four wind soloists and a pianist – devote themselves enthusiastically to this wonderful but neglected classical musical genre, which is mostly cultivated by ad hoc ensembles, if at all.
On their second CD, in addition to Beethoven’s original classic for this instrumentation, you will also hear a rarity by Brahms-friend Heinrich von Herzogenberg and the world premiere recording of “Jerusalem Mix”, a powerful new work by Israeli composer Avner Dorman.
